Sands Of Time

Sands of Time
Words: Anne Cousin (Based on Samuel Rutherford’s Letters), 1857. Chorus by Cameron Gray, 2005. Music: Traditional Folk Tune, Arranged by Phillip Palmertree. ©2001 Phillip Palmertree Music.

The sands of time are sinking
The dawn of heaven breaks
The summer morn I’ve sighed for
The fair, sweet morn awakes.
Dark, dark had been the midnight
But dayspring is at hand
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.

O Christ, He is the fountain,
The deep, sweet well of love!
The streams on earth I’ve tasted
More deep I’ll drink above:
There to an ocean fullness
His mercy doth expand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.

CHORUS:
Oh—Emmanuel!
Oh—Emmanuel!
Oh—Emmanuel!
All my hope and peace
All my hope and peace

O I am my Beloved’s
And my Beloved is mine!
He brings a poor vile sinner
Into His house of wine
I stand upon His merit,
I know no other stand,
Not e’en where glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land
(Chorus)

The Bride eyes not her garment,
But her dear Bridegroom’s face,
I will not gaze at glory,
but on my King of grace;
Not at the crown He giveth,
But on His pierced hand;
The Lamb is all the glory
In Emmanuel’s land
(Chorus)

Rejoice, the Lord is King
Words & Music: Charles Wesley, 1744; Music: Darwall’s 148th, 1770.

Rejoice, the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore;
Rejoice, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore;

CHORUS:
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

The Lord Our Savior, reigns,
The God of truth and love;
When He had purged our stains
He took His seat above;
(Repeat Chorus)

His kingdom cannot fail,
He rules o’er earth and Heav’n,
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Jesus giv’n;
(Repeat Chorus)

Rejoice in glorious hope!
Jesus the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up
To their eternal home.
(Repeat Chorus)

Psalm 130

Psalm 130
Words: Martin Luther, 1523. Music: Christopher Miner ©1997 Christopher Miner Music

From the depths of woe I raise to Thee
The voice of lamentation;
Lord, turn a gracious ear to me
And hear my supplication;
If Thou iniquities dost mark,
Our secret sins and misdeeds dark,
O who shall stand before Thee?

To wash away the crimson stain,
Grace, grace alone availeth;
Our works, alas! Are all in vain;
In much the best life faileth;
No man can glory in Thy sight,
All must alike confess Thy might,
And live alone by mercy

Therefore my trust is in the Lord,
And not in mine own merit;
On Him my soul shall rest, His word
Upholds my fainting spirit;
His promised mercy is my fort,
My comfort and my sweet support;
I wait for it with patience

Though great our sins and sore our woes
His grace much more aboundeth;
His helping love no limit knows,
Our utmost need it soundeth.
Our Shepherd good and true is He,
Who will at last His Israel free
From all their sin and sorrow
I wait for it with patience

Pearly Gates

Pearly Gates
Words: Fredrick A. Blom, 1917; translated from Swedish by Nathaniel Carlson, circa 1935. Music: Clint Wells and Brian T. Murphy. ©2004 Red Mountain Music.

Love divine, so great and wondrous,
Deep and mighty, pure sublime!
Coming from Your heart, O Jesus,
Just the same through tests of time.

CHORUS:
You the pearly gates will open,
So that I may enter in;
For You purchased my redemption
And forgave me all my sin.

Like a dove when hunted, frightened,
As a wounded fawn was I;
Brokenhearted, yet You healed me,
You will heed the sinner’s cry.
(Repeat Chorus)

Love divine, so great and wondrous,
All my sins You then forgave!
I will sing Your praise forever,
For Your blood, Your power to save.
(Repeat Chorus)

In life’s eventide, at twilight,
At Your door I’ll knock and wait;
By Your precious love, O Jesus
I shall enter Heaven’s gate.
(Repeat Chorus)

Notes
Fredrick Arvid Blom was born on May 21, 1867, near Enkoping, Sweden. He came to the United States in the 1890’s and became an officer in the Salvation Army, in Chicago. Later Blom studied at North Park College and Seminary and then pastored Mission Covenant (now Evangelical Covenant) churches until 1915. Through various circumstances, Mr Blom fell into deep sin and eventually spent time in prison. He explained, “I drifted from God… and became embittered with myself, the world, and no the least with ministers who look on me with suspicion…” Sometime later, Blom was restored in his fellowship with God at a Salvation Army meeting and once again resumed a pastorate at a Swedish Congregational Church in Titusville, PA, until returning to Sweden in 1921. There he pastored several churches until his death on May 24, 1927, at Uddevalla, Sweden.

It is generally believed that Fredrick Blom wrote the text for these verses either in prison or shortly after his spiritual restoration.

King of Saints
©2005 Red Mountain Music. Words: Joseph Hart, 1768. 2nd Chorus by Cameron Gray. Music: Clint Wells, 2004.

Jesus Christ, God’s Holy Lamb,
We will laud Thy lovely name;
We were saved by God’s decree,
And all our debt was paid by Thee.
Thou has washed us in Thy blood,
Made us kings and priests to God;
Take this tribute of the poor:
We can’t give less, we can’t give more.

CHORUS:
Souls redeemed your voices raise!
Sing your dear Redeemer’s praise;
Worthy Thou of love and laud,
King of Saints, Incarnate God—

Righteous are Thy ways and true;
Endless honors are Thy due;
Grace and glory in Thee shine;
Matchless mercy, love divine.
We for whom Thou once was slain,
We Thy ransomed sinner train,
In this one request agree,
“Spirit, make us more like Thee.”
(Repeat Chorus)

2nd CHORUS:
O, my soul, rejoice and
Sing of thy salvation!
Lift thy voice and praise
The Lord of all creation!

Jesus, Lover Of My Soul

Jesus, Lover of My Soul
Words: Charles Wesley, 1740. Music: ©2000 Greg Thompson Music.

Jesus, lover of my soul,
Let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll,
While the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
Til Thy storm is past;
Safe into the haven guide;
Receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, oh leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
In the shadow of Thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want,
More than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
Heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy Name,
I am all unrighteousness;
False and full of sin I am;
Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found,
Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound;
Make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art,
Freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart;
For all eternity.

Notes
Mrs. Mary Hoover, of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, whose grandmother was the heroine of the story, has related to her pastor this family tradition: Charles Wesley was preaching in the fields of the parish of Killyleagh, County Down, Ireland, when he was attacked by men who did not approve of his doctrines. He sought refuge in a house located on what was known as the Island Barn Farm. The farmer’s wife, Jane Lowrie Moore, told him to hide in the milkhouse, down in the garden. Soon the mob came and demanded the fugitive. She tried to quiet them by offering them refreshments. Going down to the milkhouse, she directed Mr. Wesley to get through the rear window and hide under the hedge, by which ran a little brook. In that hiding-place, with the cries of his pursuers all about him, he wrote this immortal hymn. Descendants of Mrs. Moore still live in the house, which is much the same as it was in Wesley’s time. Indescribable

Indescribable
©2004 worshiptogether.com songs (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing). Words & Music: Laura Story. CCLI Song #4403076

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of Fall to the fragrance of Spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

CHORUS:
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky
And You know them by name
You are amazing, God.
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God.

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go?
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow?
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light?
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?
None can fathom,
(Repeat Chorus)

ENDING CHORUS:
Incomparable, unchangeable,
You see the depths of my heart
And you love me the same
You are amazing, God.

In Christ Alone

©2001 Thankyou Music. Words & Music: Stuart Townsend & Keith Getty

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For ev’ry sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the pow’r of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand

Come Ye Sinners
Words: Joseph Hart, 1759. Music: Cameron Gray, 2005
©2005 Rough Harbor Music.

Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus, ready, stands to save you,
Full of pity joined with power.
He is able, He is able;
He is willing; doubt no more.

Come ye needy, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.
Without money, without money
Come to Jesus Christ and buy.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Bruised and broken by the fall;
If you tarry ’til you’re better,
You will never come at all.
Not the righteous, not the righteous;
Sinners Jesus came to call.

Let not conscience make you linger,
Nor of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him.
This He gives you, this He gives you,
‘Tis the Spirit’s rising beam.

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended;
Pleads the merit of His blood.
Venture on Him; venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.
None but Jesus, none but Jesus
Can do helpless sinners good.

Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
Weak and wounded sick and sore.

Come Thou long-expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the saints Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

CHORUS:
Come Thou long-awaited Emmanuel.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
(Repeat Chorus)

By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
(Repeat Chorus)
